Well ... didn't we already know that? Why is it only NASA scientists can make this official? There have been scientists not associated with NASA who have studied the same data and announced years ago that Mars had surface water -- lakes, rivers, etc. This news is nothing new, and NASA's press release did promise us something new and completely surprising.

One thing that made me laugh was the way one NASA scientist practically leapt out of his chair after saying Mars once had water and stated quite loudly that it doesn't mean Mars once had life. He said it in a paranoid, "My God, people are going to put two and two together by themselves and work out that if there were water systems and an atmosphere, then there was probably life of some kind as well!" kind of way which begs the question ....

Just what is NASA's problem?

Ego and politics.
