"x amount of charge" ?
Would that amount be measured in electro-bits, pints, remens, relativistic electrons, ... ??

To keep from getting hung up on hypothetical "charge carriers", and having to dodge simple questions like 'what is your "electron"'; you might try envisioning your model electric circuit first in terms of pressure (EMF) and flow (Amps); sort of akin to fluid in a closed pump & turbine system, where the hydro-dynamics of a pressurized system are well known.
Then we can work up to the electro-dynamics pertaining charge, electric potentials, generators, motors, conductors and all of that .
Or, you could just define your electron ....

cheers
