My guess is the obervation is not correct, yes superflares are possible, but i think they deduce too much from too little data.

Our star is very stable, this goes for yellow stars in general, when the sun cools more and becomes a red dwarf and then a flare star it could flare more and more violently, like a flickering candle before stopping to shine completely (in visible light).
