I agree, it is easier to cool something. If earth was to loose it's atmosphere it would get cold instantly because outer space is not a balmy 85 degrees F. I rely on the sunspot cycle for radio communications and the last few years there has been almost zero sunspots. I haven't had the short wave radio on in months, there is just nothing there. Simply put the sunspots help the upper atmosphere to act like a natural rf amplifier. The last time I can remember excellent world wide communications was in the 1970's at the peak of the eleven year sunspot cycle, it was very good "skip" for several years. It would appear that eleven year cycle has been disrupted for some reason.
