Science not your strong point is it, Daniel? In the lab you need a power supply to create and focus the plasma. That is not the case with the solar wind. The process is mechanical, and is due to the kinetic energy of the ions, particularly the heavier ones. There are believed to be two contributions to the sputter yield from the SW ions; kinetic and potential sputtering. I would suggest familiarising yourself with them, e.g;

Contributions of solar-wind induced potential sputtering to the lunar surface erosion rate and it's exosphere
