There are two aquifers that flow under Giza and there was once a river that flowed from the west just north of Giza. The crust is only a little more than 20 miles thick here and is near the point of a transform plate boundary that is rapidly turning into a fast moving expanding plate boundary that will cart off the Horn of Africa.
It's very unusual geology here.
