Many people do not realize that when the sea dropped a mile the Nile river dropped as well. It simply scoured out a mile deep canyon all the way to Aswan. When the sea reflooded the canyon became a fiord that filled in over geologic time. As the drop in the river inched upriver past Giza it created caves to a one mile depth (~6200').

There are two aquifers that flow under Giza and there was once a river that flowed from the west just north of Giza. The crust is only a little more than 20 miles thick here and is near the point of a transform plate boundary that is rapidly turning into a fast moving expanding plate boundary that will cart off the Horn of Africa.

It's very unusual geology here.

Man fears the pyramid, time fears man.
