In support of Skako's statements about myth, if the birth of the planet Venus occurred in ways similar to what Velikovsky describes, the events would have played out in front of the eyes ancient cultures, who observed the night sky with at least as much attention as we observe television. Reports made by these cultures are often seen as unreliable in many of the same ways that ancient myths can be. However, I sometimes give an example to put that kind of unreliability into context.
Imagine that a group of four-year-old pre-schoolers witness the abduction of their teacher. Everyone knows that the testimony of a four-year-old is inherently unreliable. However, if each child interviewed independently describes the abductor as having been a tall, thin, red-headed man with a beard, my feeling is that the police should be actively seeking a tall, thin, red-headed man with a beard.
Velikovsky's Venus scenario began with cross-confirming statements from myths of many different cultures. That being true, it rises to the level of corroborated testimony.
