Well... a deep subject.

I had always been under the impression that the USA was founded on the principles of freedom and rule by elected officials ultimately responsible to the voters. I would like to believe that the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights continue to work as viable documents not just as anachronistic and crippled pieces of paper.

I do believe that America has lost its way, its moral foundation that, in the past, has worked to balance or rein in the unchecked push for material acquisition and global dominance. Now it's egregious and outright arrogant. What a few months ago was at least cloaked in the vocabulary of "freedom" and "democracy" is now shameless in its disregard of this cloak. What I see is Orwellian pigs taking over the barnyard, not afraid to oink and squeak because they're big, they're bad, and they think nobody can or will be able to stand up to them.

They think wrong. When a society becomes grounded in irrational thinking that serves to harm so many and take away so much from them, it cannot last. That's what happened with slavery, with the feudal system, with the excesses of capitalism; and that's what will happen with this current will to impose an American brand of theocratic and ruthless hegemony on an area of the world that doesn't want it, and on its own people who will soon realize that nothing Bush and the Pubs are doing is in hardly anyone's best interests, except for the immediate aggregation of more wealth by the already rich. Even Warren Buffett spoke to this effect this week. Every sector of society will suffer if Bush and his wrongheaded policies are allowed passage through a gamut which only waves and smiles.
