Milo,

The Dirk Pitt series of books is written by Clive Custler and are readily available in the UK. I have been a fan of this series for a while. Personally I would say that you would have no problem in finding references in them.

I have always found them a fun entertaining reading. The very first one is called Pacific Vortex, but isn't that great though his relationship with Summer (?) is refered to throughout most of the other books (I was almost crying laughing at the end of the last one!). The best of the earlier ones, I feel are Dragon and Treasure but most of them (with IMHO the exception of Sahar which just has a silly revelation at the end) are pretty good.

If you just do a search on amazon for Clive Custler, you will find them all, I am pretty sure they are all in print at the moment too as they recently seem to have got new covers in my book shop.

Enjoy

MikeS
