Hiya Jameske,

I feel that all religious writings are based on Metaphor, allegory, parable and symbollism. This includes buddhism. The noble truths are much like the egyptian book of the dead and the Judeo-Christian 10 commandmants. They are allegories that lead us to God through hidden meanings.
