Good questions all, most of which could probably be answered with one of Don Barones' favourite phrases...."Where's the money?"
One question. Are you sure that Anwar Sadat was democratically elected. I was fairly sure that Mubarak was the first Egyptian president to hold elections, and with the state of Egyptian politics they can hardly be called democratic. The 'opposition' is so low profile that most Egyptians just go straight out and vote for Hosni (over 95% at the last election). The Egyptians that I have spoken to about this seem perfectly happy with this state of affairs and I get the impression that most of them wouldn't be too bothered if the whole process was scrapped.
