This is a good example of the difference between Canadian and American thought. Canada does have a leftist infrastructure in place that liberal Americans would love to have--but we don't. That's especially the case with medicine. A lot of our American liberal ideals have been served by Supreme Court decisions--with no infrastructure to back them up.
The clumsy bureaucratic support they get is what we call PC: "politically correct"--and it often isn't liberal at all. For example, our enforcement of equal rights for women was technical--leaving the underlying issue to fester. Here, there is really no "left" to blame.
