I think the reason why I no longer suffer from moral outrage syndrome, is because of my faith. But that's a personal thing.
My take, is that we are on the threshold of having to face the fact that capitalism, while a good thing in many respects, is not sustainable for the simple reason that it relies on the ever-increasing consumption of finite resources. That fundamental feature of capitalism never gets discussed for all of the reasons you mentioned.
The talking heads can avoid that for as long as they like, but I guarantee that this is going to catch up with us, and soon, as it appears to already be happening now. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that.
