There are a lot of very good and very capable people in public service who are not corrupt. Some don't even see the corruption around them. Some of the best people are public servants and there are substantial numbers working for politicians or even as lobbyists (believe it or not).

But this doesn't change the fact that the system is very corrupt. Even at the state and local level there is in some places wide spread corruption, vote fraud, and crime in high office.

Congress is held virtually in contempt by most Americans but they still vote for the local scoundrel because he "brings home the bacon". We've got a whole city full of them who kowtow to the rich and throw crumbs to their constituents. Washington wastes resources by the trillions to pack rich wallets with billions and send home millions.

People generally do what they think is right. Even the most corrupt politician thinks that if ADM does well so will the country. They think Wall Street, Delaware, and Madison Avenue are saviors of the country rather than the cause of the problems. They think putting upstanding new companies out of business is good for GE so it's good for the country. And we are losing our edge across the board because inefficient and obsolete processes and practices are supported by corruption.

Man fears the pyramid, time fears man.
