I did listen to the part of Shapiro's podcast you linked, and he is a thoughtful conversationalist. You're getting more specific--which is good--but both your analysis and Shapiro's are too loose for the more detailed analysis that needs to follow. Sure, there are examples of people allowing Religious like ideologies to take over their lives--and it can happen in politics--and it can be taken to extremes--and associates with causes you broadly consider to be left. Now what?
As I'm sure you've noticed, the same kind of analysis as been applied in a similar way to Trumpers, and before that Tea Partiers, and many other so called far right target groups.
I can wear my red cap, so I don't need to wear that sacred cross necklace any more: I get it.
Too loose for me.
