This is it, exactly. Some me-first capitalists fail to recognize that capitalism requires ever-increasing expansion. It's as if they want to halt the entire process once their personal agendas are satisfied. This was the way the economy was before they came along, during the time they are here, and afterwards. It is always expanding, by virtue of its capitalist mechanisms.
Adam Smith would roll over in his grave if he heard some of the me-first capitalist rhetoric that some self-proclaimed conservatives spew. The entire justification for this economic model is that it is the best way to serve the greater good, not just individuals who say 'fuck the rest of you' once they've made their wealth. Anybody who doesn't acknowledge this fundamental fact of capitalist life ought not regard themselves as free market-conservative.
This expansionist trend will continue - since capitalism is our preferred or dominant/imposed economic paradigm. But in lesser degrees as artificial intelligence becomes a major economic driver. Eventually, guaranteed income will eventually become a right, because neo-Capitalism will have shown that this is the best way to serve the greater good. The need to keep adding to immigration will reduce accordingly. Hopefully, by then the poorer countries will not have much interest in coming to Western countries. "Hopeful," since AI and various other technologies will likely continue to elevate baseline wealth in what are now poorer nations.
