I have read through those links. Most interesting.

I have recently read two books, one about Robert Fitz-Roy and his contemporaries who were very accurate and skilled marine surveyors whose charts still remain of use to sailors; also about weather experts and of course, Fitz-Roy was one of them. Flinders would have fitted well into those groups if he had lived sixty or so years later.
