Yes that's probably right. But his diaries record supposed conversations with hundreds of angels (good ones, bad ones, historical figures, and spirits) thru a special stone.
These records and displays may have been to provide cover for his true studies into ancient knowledge. Only a guess but perhaps Dee wanted people to think he was mad.
Angels or not it is hard to explain the enochian table. Researcher Alan green is easy to dismiss because his work is so far out there. But I recommend looking into his work into the table with relation to Shakespeare. It's a mind trip
