Hi Reagent. Thank you for your insight. You are quite right that there was much need for secrecy and subterfuge during the Elizabethan reign.

Another good documentary on the topic is The Last Will and Testament (I've only found it on Amazon). This documentary lays out the context in which the plays emerged and explores the possible intention of the author/authors.
