Basically, it's a middle ground between Roman Catholicism and Calvinism.

The Anglicans/Episcopalians are just lapsed Catholics. :) A lot of Protestants find the Episcopal adherence to the old liturgies of Rome totally unacceptable...our Puritan ancestors, for one.
