As i see it.

Many scientists and historians are afraid to step out of the 'official line' mainly through fear of ruining there career and position within a 'respectable community'. Also when you consider that many were educated at universities from 'orthodox professors' this view is then engrained in them for life from an early start.

Thus a career is born by sticking religiously to the well worn path of the orthodox establishment.
