Good to hear your views on this. I feel pretty much the same way.
After a brief spell followed by a relapse in the 1970's I became a vegetarian in 1986...
Well I say that, but in fact although I quit eating birds and quadrupeds in 1986, I carried on eating prawns/shrimps/lobster/scallops and some fish for many, many years until finally I had a Damascus Road experience underwater and decided to quit all of them as well. That was in 1998, since when I have been entirely vegetarian.
My daughters Gabrielle and Leila are both 100 per cent vegetarian by their own choice, no pressure from me, and have been for years. My other kids eat meat and think I'm daft.
You are right. Choice is the thing. None of us in this affluent society actually need to eat any kind of meat.
I'll have to be careful. I'm starting to sound like one of those extremely boring militant vegetarians!
