My interest is in the symbolism of the funereal items.
The sarcophagi have traditionally seven or fourteen portals - the seven internal gates which need to be passed through. The portals, as per Djet's serekh (although a vignette), are surmounted by a serpent which is enclosed within the gates - Kundalini rising. Above all is the hawk - Horus - the symbol of ascension and the God.
So, pre-Dynastically, the pathway to the higher realms was already known and hidden in plain sight.
"If a man desires to seek the king in his palace, he will have to go to the palace and pass through all the gates; but if after entering the outermost gate he exclaims,
Where is the king? He will not find him; he must go on through the seven gates and then he will see the king."
