Hawass ranted and raved BEFORE the debate proper took part and declared the Orion Constellation Theory (OCT) issue closed. Graham kept his cool and insisted the debate was ongoing. Zahi refused to listen to his proposed talk and walked out.

ZH: This man (Robert Bauval) is a thief and I don't want to talk on him, and I don't want his name to be mentioned.
GH: In academics, Zahi …..
ZH: He's not academic. He is nothing.
GH: In an academic world we do not do ad hominum arguments. We do not debate the man. We debate the matter.
ZH: Listen, Listen. The matter is debated already and it's closed.
GH: No it's not …
ZH: It is debated and closed. It's closed in Chicago by everyone.
GH: Then you don't want to hear anything that I have got to say.
ZH: Exactly, I don't want to hear anything.
GH: Shame on you.
ZH: (0:30) No please don't say this to me.
GH: But it is true, we ….
ZH: (Shouting loudly) Don't say this word to me. It's a shame on you, not on me.
GH: We haven't held a discussion about ….
ZH: (Still shouting loudly) Don't talk to me, please. Go away from me. Shame on you. Why do you say shame on me? Why?
GH: Because we should be able to openly discuss ….
ZH: I don't want to. This man did bad things. I don't want to hear his name.
GH: This man is ….
ZH: And I am going to call .… I am going to let this man not enter this country at all.
ZH (1:00) Because he is a crook. It's not my own business.
GH: Really, we should be able to have a debate ….
ZH: Please I don't want to talk to you. Please leave me alone.
Santha Hancock: So basically you're saying you won't have a discussion or a conversation if …
ZH: Why is someone talking about a theory of someone else? Why? Why is he talking about a theory that has been closed? Why you have to open the theory again?
GH: (1:30) The theory is not closed.
ZH: It is closed.
GH: No, it's not closed.
ZH: Everyone. And I don't know why you talk about him. It's a funny thing. Why do you talk about him? You have to present your theory, not to present the ideas.
GH: It's not closed Zahi.
ZH: Okay, I closed it.
GH: And I am presenting it. I am presenting my own theory.
ZH: OK, I am not going to attend this. I am going to give my talk but I'm not going to attend yours. (Hawass leaves the hall)
GH: (2:00) Even before a word is exchanged, one image and Mr. Hawass leaves the room. Shame.
Santha Hancock: What are you going to do?
GH: I'm here. I'm willing to debate. I do believe this is a great shame for Egyptology.
Santha Hancock: He does not want to talk about Bauval.
GH: Well I'm sorry, Bauval is central to the alternative argument. We cannot have a discussion without Bauval.
Dr. Zahi Hawass was reacting to this image of Robert Bauval. He returned to give his talk but did not engage in the planned debate:
