Yipes, I never realized that text was black "soot" from smoke raising out of an oil lamp. I'd like to see if that's reproducible, especially considering how well defined the lower part of the letters are. I would think the text would look far more blurry and not so well defined around the edges (other than the smear on top, of course). But it certainly softens the "capillarity" notion.
What about the crackled "48"?
