I see it as important part of the learning process.
My academic interests are primarily elsewhere.
If I require learned advice from outside of my field I speak to a relevant academic.
For example I take the advice of my Physician. I do not research medicine.
I listen to and respect their opinion and then form my own opinion.
We develop knowledge and understanding as a species through communication and discourse. In order to build on and sometimes modify the pre-existing library of understanding.
