So back when they first started translating hieroglyphs, they pretty much said the Chinese used a rectangle, so the Egyptian oval must be used the same way. Without explanation or reason, they just deduce this. The explanations above seem to come after the fact. So how could the cartouche mean anything at all, if the Egyptians just said, hey...... that's a good idea, let's do that also. If I had the time, I'd try to find out when the Chinese started using a rectangle and if they were trading with Egypt.Quote
