Well, in reference to my point of support, here are some casual links to people asking the same question. For academic arguments try JStore or other databases that would index a lot of the peer reviewed archeological journals and publications.
As to the other part of my point one only needs to Google early twentieth century scientific and archeological hoaxes. You’ll find a large number around the same time period. So it’s not a stretch to turn a skeptical eye on Howard Vyse or any researcher from that time period, especially one from an emerging discipline like archeology.
