Taken from the Dogon perspective, the Egyptian Underworld is a likely correlate to the Dogon Second World of matter. Within this Second World, matter is characterized by a feature called the "Egg of the World", which is described as having many of the same attributes as the Calabi-Yau space in string theory or torsion theory.

One thrust of Dogon cosmology is to direct our attention to a structure in space that the Dogon priests say is the macrocosmic counterpart to the Calabi-Yau space, which Dogon refer to as the "Chariot of Orion". This structure, which is called Barnard's Loop, is a spiral birthplace of stars that circles around the belt stars of Orion and is "hidden" in the sense that it is so very faint that it can only be imaged through timelapse photography. Once imaged, it looks like the wheel of a chariot in which Orion the Hunter stands - hence the Dogon term for it.

From an astronomer's perspective, Barnard's Loop represents a stellar bubble, a construct whose definition is a very close match for the Dogon egg-of-the-world.

The Dogon refer to the belt stars with the term "atenu", meaning "deputies", and consider the stars to be "deputies of Sirius", or Isis. The Egyptian word "ast" means "star". In the Egyptian hieroglyphic language, the word "atanu" means "deputy", as does "asti", which is formed on the phonetic root "ast", which is a homonym for Sirius/Isis. Symbolically, I interpret the name for Osiris "Asar" to read "eye of the throne", and the word "asti" as referring to the "deputy of the throne of matter." The Egyptian term for "deputy" is given as "one in place of the other".

So for me, from one perspective Asar/Osiris represents a hidden source of creation in the local macrocosm that gave birth to the stars Isis/Sirius A and Nephthys/Sirius B.
