A person could come up with lots of different reasons a gov might cover it up. If they use there imagination for example. I am only paraphrasing what the eyewitnesses who participated in the cover-up said is the reason why.

Trust Hollywood? Why would anyone do that? They make movies.

Are you serious? Tell me this, how come people on trial for their life don't say things in closing arguments like... "Maybe the eyewitnesses who saw my client shoot the victim were experiencing a hallucination, or were the victim of a psy-op campaign." They don't say this because it would be a death sentence. No one in their right mind would accept that as a possible reason for this person mistaking what they saw. Yet, it's a very plausible conclusion in this case, why?
People used to say... evidence of the extraordinary, requires extraordinary evidence....
But an alien encounter... be it of the first, second, or even third kind. Happen every single day. It's really not an extraordinary event. In fact, it's so common that the caveat no longer applies.
What's left IMO is just a big "wake up" to the observer.
