Hello Jacob,

Please can you explain what you mean by 'notches'.

The two rectangular slots in the Great Step (next to the GG south wall) are of the same pattern in length and width as those seen in the Gallery ramps.
The only notable difference between the slots in the Ramps and those in the Great Step is in the depths.
Those in the tops of the Ramps vary in vertical depth from 7" to 11", whereas the two in the Great Step are 5" to 5.5" deep (Piazzi Smyth Life and Work at the Great Pyramid First Edition. Vol II, 1867.

Clearly, the slots in the Great Step are part of 'the set'; and it is worth noting that (allowing for fluctuations in the flooring from the face of the Great Step through into the King's Chamber) the bottom of the slots in the Great Step is at the level of the base of the King's Chamber walls.

What evidence do you have that suggests that it is the number of slots in the tops of the Ramps and not their near-alternating lengths and spacing that is the key issue here?

Regards,

MJ
