Do you suppose that my personal view is identical with the conventional view I was describing?
The fact that I said, "Anyway, that's how I understand the conventional view of British linguistic history" should help to indicate that this is not necessarily MY view.
I didn't say, for example, "Anyway, that's British linguistic history." But I figured there might be some people out there who were NOT familiar with the conventional view and therefore decided to present it for everyone's convenience, as best I understand it, anyway.
However, as a matter of fact, the conventional view is the view that I'm most familiar with. One reason for participating in this forum is to learn about other views such as yours, if you have one.
