Charles Foster is the writer of the book this art was published in. The original is an 1872 painting by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. Pictured in the book is a later etching of the painting made by A. Mongin.

Anyhoo, this is not historically accurate but an artistic representation of what Alma-Tadema in 1872 thought these details would look like loosely based on the references available to him at the time. TiO is likely correct that this object is an amalgam of the Djed pillar, Tyet and/or ankh, that Alma-Tadema saw in a grouping as they commonly were and combined them to make this.
