Yes, I have seen these ramps before. Is someone offering support for Houdin on the sly here? :-)

Being we know they weren't really such a superstitious lot, my smart money would be on the Book of the Dead and the Pyramid Texts perhaps dealing with astronomical phenomena in much the same way that the stories cited and deciphered by engbren seem to. Robert Graves could make it work that way with Greek myths and it appears to work the same for Maya cosmology where planets descend to the Underworld, and so forth.

I mean, what's the point of having a cosmology if it isn't populated with cosmological objects, no matter what quaint ways ancient peoples found for expressing commentary on the activities of cosmological objects?

Beyond that, my opinion is probably that lots of things are "older than believed", math and astronomy being near the top of my list. A very interesting post nonetheless though, and nice pics - thanks, Thanos5150.

PS: Are we over the idea of Mentuhotep having had a pyramid situated just a short climb up that ramp? That's one of those things where I'd really like to hear what any holdouts have to say.
