Most tufa has been used because it is an easy and light material to carve and transport. Some deposits are 30 feet high, or higher, those at Sacsayhuaman are not the biggest on the planet. Similar at Pyramid Lake, Nevada.
However, the image of the lower wall at the Water Temple shows indigenous rock with what appears to be ongoing precipitation around, and in, the central mass.
That is why the Inca called them living stones.
Those in the higher walls at the top are dead.
