1:250.000 topographical maps - indeed source material much relied upon back then (and properly oriented, with South at top :-) Your post coincides with the year in which ZT - the First Time, was published in South Africa.
In recent years only, paying more attention to some of the intricacies -- the causeways in particular -- respective Giza, my quest for comprehension of what is astromomically evident, demanded some 'Math'... Having never been a strong faculty, however applied from an elementary perspective, in which the 'two earths' comprise our planet -- as a sphere -- derive from observable geometrical relationships that aid matters tangible.
As such, the variety of metrology systems has always been a rather bewildering subject to me, although not entirely uninteresting, the debate seems to go in circles.. evading the message -- that which it stands for -- by tinkering with pixelated aspects of composition.
The relative close proximity of Sirius to Earth means it displays rather large proper motion, although such could very well be encoded within static geographic angles. Their respective N-S in conflict, your combined sky & ground image, would prevent actual observation as depicted (the very issue of inverted orientation that beset OCT) - quoting from the link: "...a sight line could be drawn from Abu Roash through Abu Sir, across the horizon and up into the sky through Rigel and Betelgeuse".
However, I follow your reasoning. By means of what essentially is a side-by-side comparison of two separate oriented individual topographies, the Betelgeux \ Rigel diagonal is the true 'as above, so below' geometrically engraved marker* - it represents the axis, around which the two diametrically opposed hemispheres, precessionally advance the Equinox 2× 180 degrees. And that, my friend, is the action portrayed by the ancient founders - using the same principle by which a day is monitored, only rearward and with velocity of 1 deg. of arc in 72 years, or so. To purpose of orienteering Earth, a mutual correlating Meridian is paramount.
* in relation thereto, the Gizamid belt angle was intentionally reproduced out of kilter by 14 degrees.
