I don't think you can use the modern metre to build a theory of what the ancients did. It does not fit the hekat, does not divide by 28 and was invented by the French.

I love huitres , french wine, garlic, moules frites, french chefs, citroen cars and savoire faire.

But the metre c'est merde.

(build a theory and see if the ancient evidence fits it, don't build a theory on the ancient and modern evidence.)

your theory isn't though(merde), if you use the ancient metre ( actually there are two of them, duality and all that)

This is my cubit theory and fits all cubit lengths up to the cut off 100 inches. You can go past this but you have to reduce the length of the foot.

The cubit is 100 inches divided by 4.8 with 4.8 being a fixed unit and 100 being a variable unit.

99/4.8 = 20.625 Berriman's Royal cubit.

96/4.8 = 20 imperial inches

the christmas quiz is

If the royal cubit is 20.625, what is the length of the ancient metre.Clue use (28-1) and read Berriman.

Magister you are not allowed to enter the competition. - Keep the fires burning.

Dune says

So using this Remen unit at 14.58" x 396 we get 5773.68"

It also comes close to revealing the numbers for Earth's circumference of 24883.2 if G1's perimeter was 36279.7" / 1.458 = 24883.2

The only thing about that above sum is that my favoured perimeter for G1 is 36278" also confirmed by Glen Dashes survey, but who really knows what was intended measure for G1's base.

The answer to that one is Blaster Vyse 36666.666r inches

Dune does not know he is using Berriman's units but he is.14.58 et al

Dune - I think Berriman has solved the problem, his digit is 0.729

5773.68 / 0.729 = 7920

have a good christmas, treat yourselves and buy Berriman's book.

here is my present to you all

If you like this music please buy it with real money because they deserve it for being so brilliant.

And finally

if you divide 792 by 28 you get cubitamus ultimamus( I made that one up) 28.28571

28.28571 x 28.282828282r ( cubitamus ultimamus secundomamus ) = 800 (eight hundromamus)

It is all about root 2.

Simple use of the cubit to determine the GP base and Earth Circumference

The earth circumference in miles is the cubit x 1200

1200 x 20.8333r = 25000 miles

1200 x 20.625 = 24750 miles

1200 x 20.736 = 24883.20 miles

1200 x 20 = 24000 miles

The GP base in inches is the commonly known

1760 x 20.8333r = 36666.666r

1760 x 20.625 = 36300

1760 x 20.1618181818r = 36288

1760 x 20 = 35200 ( being 36666.666r / 25 x 24)

The link between the two is 1760/1200 = 1.4666r the Eclipse unit.

This is a simplified version of Michell's Canon of Ancient Measure

The GP Design Framework

It is the invidual cubit lengths using 100 variable / 4.8 x 1760/280 being 44/7.

Why 2 x 22/7? probably duality because this makes the number of units required in the GP height to be 500 to give 1000 in the base.

The unit of design is the Egyptian foot of 11.666r inches giving a height of 500 x 11.666r = 5833.333r inches

5833.333r x 44/7 = 36666.666r / 11.666r = 3142.857 Egyptian feet.

It all stacks up as a theory. Unfortunately Blater Vyse evidence got nicked by souvenir hunters. His calculation still remains.

Why is the royal cubit 20.625?

Because 20.625 x 1777.77r = 36666.666r and 14.58333r x 99/70 = 20.625 / 25 = 0.825 / 99 x 70 = 0.58333r.

There is strong argument to say the base is 3025 feet and the 100/99 adjustment is notional or even 3024 feet with an even bigger notional adjustment but the evidence produced by Vyse because of its pedigree is the preferred choice. The intention was most probably to build to base 100 for obvious reasons.

cheers

Dave
