Hi, Jim

I found your older GHMB post and website link interesting [home.hiwaay.net]

The ancient Egyptian cubit of 20.625 inches gives an ancient Egyptian foot of 13.75 inches or 1.1458 English feet.

1.1458 / 2 = .5729 -- this is of course very reminiscent of 1/100 of the Radian value of 57.29577951 = 360 / (2 Pi).

I wonder if we are seeing more evidence of geometrical constants (Pi, 2 Pi, 360/(2Pi) = Radian) made into metrological units in feet here. That seems to be something I've seen at least strongly hinted at repeatedly in my own metrological experiments.

If you simply adjust 20.625 to 20.62648062, that does seem to be precisely how that works out.

20.62648062 / 1.5 = 13.75098708; 13.75098708 / 12 = .5729577951 x 2.

I might have to also give Jim Wakefield (molder) and others bit of due here

13.75098708 x 12 = 165.0118450 = 1980.142140 / 12 (1980.142140 = (360 x 1728) / Pi) / 100

165.0118450 / 12.5 = 132.0094760 (~10 Indus feet in inches) = 66.00473798 x 2 = 5280.379039 / 4

At least for parts of this, I prefer 1981.574331 as the number of inches in ten Poles/Rods, if only because I prefer to work with the equatorial circumference rather than the mean, but those values are, respectively

1980.142140 x (4 Pi) = 24883.20000 x 10^n
1981.574331 x (4 Pi) = 24901.19742 x 10^n

But I'm still discontented that the mile being a large unit, altering the rest of the following values accordingly magnifies the variance to add some 4 feet to a mile.

Interestingly, this isn't the first exercise of the last several days that seem to cue up Michell's figure of "3168" to be 3168.227423

3168.227423 x (25 Pi) = 24883.20000
3170.515734 x (25 Pi) = 24901.19742

That's about as unified a view of metrology as I seem to be able to manage at the moment.

Cheers, and thanks!
