You are assuming 'the craft' were constructed in likeness to steam locomotives, I presume..? Thanos has already adressed the issues (quite meticulously) that I intended to raise, therefore other than my emphasis to the eyewitness report, all that can be added is complete agreement with his sentiment and sympathies with his (*sigh*..) exasperation!
For serious discussion of the controversies, approaches and enigmas surrounding the origins and development of the human species and of human civilization. (NB: for more ‘out there’ posts we point you in the direction of the ‘Paranormal & Supernatural’ Message Board).

Nurembourg eyewitness report
Besides the globes flew back and forth among themselves and fought vehemently with each other for over an hour. And when the conflict in and again out of the sun was most intense, they became fatigued to such an extent that they all, as said above, fell from the sun down upon the earth 'as if they all burned' and they then wasted away on the earth with immense smoke.

I would be far more impressed if a Nuremberg search party went on an expedition of discovery and they found the wrecks of some strange huge metallic objects scattered in the region , that they were unable to cut or move , so they built a barn around them as a museum, and are still in Germany to this day!
