I would think an account of such an event would "excite" anyone regardless of whether they were "UFO's" or not.

Does this look like just "the description was a "sun" and crescent shaped "suns" likely 22 degrees either side of the sun" to you:

The broadsheet claims that witnesses observed hundreds of spheres, cylinders and other odd-shaped objects that moved erratically overhead.[3][4][5][6][7]

The broadsheet describes objects of various shapes including crosses, globes, two lunar crescents, a black spear and tubular objects from which several smaller, round objects emerged and darted around the sky at dawn.[8]

A little different than ""the description was a "sun" and crescent shaped "suns" likely 22 degrees either side of the sun".

And yet in little more than 60yrs, these people of Nuremberg who had probably seen several if not many of these sun dogs in the intervening six decades, lost their minds and now depicted sun dogs like this:

Or we speak of them with ridicule and discard them to the wind, in order that God may send us a frightening punishment on account of our ungratefulness. After all, the God-fearing will by no means discard these signs, but will take it to heart as a warning of their merciful Father in heaven, will mend their lives and faithfully beg God, that He may avert His wrath, including the well-deserved punishment, on us, so that we may temporarily here and perpetually there, live as his children. So no, not only does this natural phenomenon not "closely agrees to the previous medieval unscientific description" it does not even compare to previous "medieval unscientific description" and depictions of an actual sun dog made barely 60yrs before.

Again, this had nothing to do with what they described. It was their explanation after the fact.
