Thanos writes “Occupation of the site goes back the the 6th millennium. The city of Harran by all accounts was established in the 3rd millennium. Clear archaeological remains of the city to my knowledge were not found dating to before the mid 3rd millennium and Harran appears to be part of a wave of rapid urbanization that appeared across Mesopotamia at this time. "Late 3rd millennium" is better replaced with just "3rd millennium" or "mid 3rd millennium".

It was your statement about Harran being founded in the late 3rd millennium that needed substantiating – which I notice you have now backpedalled on. I assume that you know Harran was deliberately erased and that there’s nothing of any great age, making the lack of archaeological remains a poor argument for dating.

“I assume you are getting this line of thinking from Magicians of the Gods.”

What a strange assumption to make, Thanos, and it sounds vaguely contemptuous. This is what I wrote: The Syrian Ebla tablets gave Harran as ‘a crossroads for trade in the Middle East’ at around 2300 BC. It would have been active well before that if it was already known far and wide as a crossroads. In fact, its very position along with this description would no doubt mean that Harran was in full contact with Egypt in the 3rd millennia, if not before. The above is the result of logic, not parroting. The subject of the Sabians of Harran and their wisdom schools is not new and, since translating the Sumerian symbols and visiting the region, I find it all the more fascinating.

“Regardless, why does this mean it would have been in contact with Egypt? Harran: (shows helpful map of the Middle East.)”

Perhaps because people travelled and traded, and Harran was a crossroads, a well-known trade route…. oh, I already said that, didn’t I? I could add that I have reason to believe they made some damn good beer, that the homeland beer of the ŠA-BI was renowned even!

“Regardless, this all quite a stretch and more of a means to an end to make the Sabians somehow relevant to a more ancient time which otherwise they are not.”

It seems to me that your desire for an impenetrable border between the two regions from 3000 BC until 700 BC is by far the greatest stretch - to what end? I don't know. As for the Sabians, once again and as you must have read, it was the result of my own translating that leads me to believe they were indeed around as early as 2600 BC. Never mind.
