> Re Hoax..."It's dead Jim"
Fwiw I happen to think some or most of the actual observations by Jon Snape are somewhat valid with perhaps exception of the minuscule "runnel". i.e That the cartouche started at what is now the bottom was completed in several strokes on recharging brush and likely that the vertical part of cartouche was done first (aka the downstroke of the 'a' or ought I say in this case a truncated 'b') The miniscule runnel (if there) could occur on a horizontal surface if brush was fully charged and there was a small stone depression from starting point to the edge. However it would require more than just better photographs, rather a physical inspection.
Hey, but what would I know I am no "expert".
I reckon most of us now could closely replicate the cartouche and characters from our memory.
However despite the 'aper' symbol almost certainly identified in 1837 or thereabouts (mainly from the amulet versions) it would be an extremely brave forger to place that in his phyle name as painted, as there are so many variants of it!
I suppose of course if one had a secret cache of 4th D documents from which to copy ???? but any papyri versions likely to be far more precise and distinctive.
Yes it is dead. (Sadly still-born) But apparently we need "to watch this space" ,no promises though. Even if promises were made would anyone believe such still????
Answer: Yes, some desperately need to believe in the hoax .
