I specifically referred to those who understood history and metaphysics. Some physicists are virtually mystics compared to those who are metaphysicians. Still, I've never met a physicist who thought that "consensus" is a part of the scientific method because... ...wait for it... ...consensus has no bearing on reality and no place at all in the scientific method. This is simple enough even wiki gets it right.
Find me a physicist who cares about anyone's opinion and I'll be impressed.
You're laboring under the mistaken belief that Egyptology is a science at all. It is not. They have never performed an experiment so it can't be a science. Indeed, most Egyptologists have more in common with "linguists" than with archaeologists which... ...drumroll... ...is also NOT A SCIENCE.
Most people accept expert opinion because we rarely have the means or necessity to form our own opinions. Egyptology teaches they mustta used ramps and the pyramids are tombs built by changeless moribund bumpkins but the fact is these are merely assumptions without a shred of hard evidence or logic, and certainly no experiment. Most people just accept the status quo because they like to be in the majority. They buy high and sell low so they'll have shoulders to cry on...
They buy the latest fashions and don't care about quality because everyone knows we are the crown of creation.
People don't like change in any form so the status quo has always been the height of fashion. Now, only now, for the first time the status quo has become the basis of "science" itself. If only it were contained to the pseudo-sciences we might avoid the tower of babel 2.0
I fear it is spreading because our educational system is in shambles.
