Oh dear, a lecture on probability and the philosophy of science by a pseudonymous halfwit, “LonelyAngel”, whose function it is to answer me in lieu of Creighton doing so. Funny how the modest “LonelyAngel” has suddently appointed himself an expert on these matters.

For “confirmation bias”, read lying bullshit on the part of “LonelyAngel”.

For “flimsy and limited ‘later investigations’”, read lying bullshit on the part of “LonelyAngel”.

Anyone in any doubt on the question is invited to read the entirety of Roth and the entirety of Tallet (on the names of ˤprw at Wadi al-Jarf) and the entirety of Abusir XVI, among others.

The bull about flipping coins is merely argument by analogy, one of Creighton’s favourite fallacies. There is no coin and nothing equivalent to a coin in the case: no knowledge (as there is with a coin) that there is a tails side to it. Later investigations of marks of a comparable genre could have found things dissimilar to the Khufu examples—as indeed they did, if we look at the Middle Kingdom onwards only. But the Old Kingdom evidence shows us that they are amply parallelled, which is what forces Creighton to his “desperation hypothesis” (cribbed from Alford) of the “secret cache”.

Oh dear.

M.
