As you can see most of the area east of Coober Pede has been washed away. According to my friend from this area a wash away has removed most of the sand stone layer that has the opals. With opal from Coober Pedy only being found south and west of the town.
Interesting that the circular land formation is right on the Bali to Bairnsdale Alignment. And maybe there were once opals also on the alignment before they were washed away – as there are opals on the alignment at Mintaby and Andamooka.
