If people realized how different these translations of the Pyramid Texts are I think they'd lose all respect for Egyptological opinion on their meaning. Each new translation is simply revolutionary. Long passages become short and short ones long. The words (in English) often don't bear any relationship between them and the meaning that a modern reader is likely to take is wholly dissimilar. Modern ones have lines suggesting "gods scoop water from flames" and all sorts of nonsense that almost certainly could have no meaning to anyone at all, ancient or modern.
Worse than the various translations though is that no two Egyptologists agree on the definitions of the words!!! They can't tell you the simplest things like how the "ankh" became a word to mean "life". They don't understand why there would be 27 sceptres listed and they don't know the origin or function of a SINGLE ONE!
Anyone who claims anything in the PT is understood has an axe to grind and a bridge to sell.
Man fears the pyramid, time fears man.
