I like your thinking.

Trick them into doing infrared and then trick them into looking for gold within the anomalies.

The only reason they did these scans at all is the tourist industry has been limping along and it needs an infusion of gold from our superstitious ancestors.

There is another test they should have done months ago and that's a muon scan from the base of the thermal anomaly pointing up to the void. This will not only show the orientation of the void (and gold! ;) ) but will also show the "Path of the NT-crown" leading to the second Sphinx (and vast amounts of gold! ;) ).

Once they can positively identify the location of the gold I fear they might blast their way in. When they start putting out feelers for demolition experts I'll really worry. In the mean time I don't understand why they aren't even fully employing the little technology they have allowed in.
