<You hit another key UK system - the Pictish Scottish base 37 base unit is 111 x 0.12 imperial feet - 1.332 feet.
5920 the Scottish mile from Edinburgh Castle to HOLY ROOD House is 5920 imperial feet
5920 / 1.332 = 4444.4444444 / 100*99 = 4400 / 3 = 1466.6666r
Archaeologist Helen Hulholland has written a brilliant paper about it. The Picts laid out the land using right angled triangles and used 5920 feet as a land unit.>
It doesn't seem surprising that these more ancient cultures as the Picts and Scots would retain more of this ancient system than the later Brits culture, which had already been so to speak, "Normalized" by the Normandy Monarchs of Europe. :) I just would never have gotten around to doing such a thorough investigation of these facts as you and others you mention of Macaulay, and Hulholland have done to this effect. Although I was formerly aware of the 37" unit of the Scottish Ell, that was typically utilized in the bulk cloth trade until recent history.
