Thomson's system rests on the classical notion of an aether that compares to sand - each unit has coherence of its own, yet behaves collectively much like a liquid. Within the unit, angular momentum is shaped and wrapped in ways that ultimately regulate how larger structures of matter can form. Attached are comparative images of how Thomson sees this process occurring, and how the Dogon draw their correlate process.
