The following is a small excerpt from “The Celestial River: Identifying the Ancient Egyptian Constellations by Alessandro Beri”, and then about 400 words from me.
“The 18th nome of Upper Egypt, nmty was named after the falcon god who is often shown perching on a crescent-shaped barque . In the Coffin Texts, he supervises Sokar’s hnw boat. The brightest star of Aquila, Altair, rises opposite the star Naos, which in Greek means “ship” and which was part of the Argo Navis constellation (chart 22). One of the Egyptian decans is called ḥr-ı͗b wiꜢ , “the one in the middle of the ship,” which Conman identified with Altair (Conman, 2006-2009). Belmonte and Lull also proposed that the constellation ḏꜢt, “The Ferryboat” was associated with the area of Argo Navis. With this, it is sufficiently clear that parts of the Argo Navis were the celestial boat constellation from ancient Egypt, even if the Greeks did not preserve its original shape.”
Having the Nile River representing the Milky Way in some way, with all the nomes of ancient Egypt corresponding to stars or constellations or asterisms, just means you gotta have a way over the rivers. While much can be alluded to or plainly said about the Argo, the Ferry Boat constellation actually is upon the Milky Way.
Having Ra, Osiris and the Pharaoh crossing rivers on their respective boats in their myths and rituals, as though mimicking each other, just needs corresponding. It’s what some researching here and elsewhere is trying to do, yes.
Extend this to the architecture of Khufu’s Pyramid and we can actually place Pharaoh and his posse at various locations which represent celestial locations as the Sun journeys through them, meeting different characters of the celestial landscape where various dramatic scenes are performed, and Pharaoh mimics godly actions in his attempt to arrive in the same ‘heavenly’ landscape...it’s what the pyramid does, yes: recreates something based upon certain rules so that Pharaoh can journey ‘above’ and be linked with ‘below’. His spirit is somewhere while his body is another place. The pyramid is not just a vehicle but the whole arena the vehicle journeys to and through.
It really does seem like there are layers or levels of meaning or scale associated with diminishing areas of influence: the Nile and its nomes; a temple and its architecture; a person and the role they play in some drama...the Milky Way and its course through the celestial sphere; constellations and their stars; where the Sun, Moon and planets travel to and through.
Kind of all comes down to making up stories to equate Above with Below, and as you keep offering certain interpretations for pyramid texts, I keep looking at the sky first, then inside the pyramid, and then at the imagery of tomb paintings and who’s involved and what’s going on. I do like what you have done so far and continue doing, and while I haven’t read all your posts, I have read enough to sometimes just smile at how you portray something corresponding to other things.
All in all though, I am quite gobsmacked at what the PTs offer, what the sky shows at various times of the year and different years, and what the pyramid offers. Quite a stage for god and man to play upon.
